Like other sugars, alcohol increases hypoglycemia symptoms. It also causes mood swings. • Eat complex carbohydrates, also known as carbs. During anxious times, turn to comforting carbs. These foods act as a mild tranquilizer by increasing the amount of serotonin, a calming neurotransmitter in the brainplex carbs such as potatoes, wholewheat bread, and pasta take longer to digest than sugary simple carbs like white bread. That way, one can stay fuller longer and blood sugar is likely to stay steady, eliminating stress and anxiety. • Be sure to drink eight or more glasses of water a day. Dehydration can lead to fatigue, headaches and stress. One should be well-hydrated and drinking lots of water a day can decrease symptoms of anxiety. • Take multivitamins and mineral supplements. B vitamins, whose role is to unlock the energy in food, are crucial. Vitamin B-6 helps manufacture serotonin in the brain. Although tension and daily stresses are unavoidable, one can relieve tension and manage stress and anxiety better by watching out for what one eats and what one does not eat. ROs are also permitted to operate in the shrinking list of industry sectors that are forbidden to direct investment vehicles. The downside is that there are some very limiting restrictions on the type of activities that an RO may engage in. For example, an RO may not: 1. Conduct direct business activities: An RO’s activities must be confined to product promotion, market research, liaison, and the like, and it may neither charge fees for its services nor engage in profitable activities such as direct sales or manufacturing (although they are subject to taxation under certain circumstances). 2. Directly invoice clients or sign contracts: These activities must be handled by the parent company. 3. Directly hire employees: It must utilize an authorized human resources agency that will refer suitable candidates to the RO in exchange for a certain percentage of employee salaries. Some ROs make an end run around this system by directly recruiting and negotiating with employment candidates and sending their names to the authorized human resources agency so that it can then ‘refer’ these candidates back to the RO. While this practice doesn’t seem to have caused many problems with the Chinese authorities so far, the formalities of referral and salary deduction must be complied with. In light of these restrictions, why bother establishing an RO at all? 1. A company might want to conduct market research in order to decide whether or not to make a future investment in China. 2. A company might wish to establish an RO in a business sector in which foreign investment is currently forbidden in anticipation of future liberalization of Chinese foreign investment law in line with its WTO commitments. In the meantime it can establish a presence, make local connections, and learn about the market. 3. A company might already be doing a modest amount of business with China from its home country but lack the market penetration or resources to justify a direct investment. Once the company attains greater market share it can always upgrade to a joint venture or wholly foreign owned enterprise. 4. Sectors of certain industries such as insurance and finance require foreign investors to operate an RO for at least two years before making a direct investment. 5. A company might want to use an RO to hire local employees to help them find Chinese suppliers. 6. A company might establish an RO with the aim of exceeding its legal restrictions, and thereby establish the functional equivalent of a joint venture or wholly foreign owned enterprise while avoiding much of the expense and inconvenience. This approach is not recommended, since it is likely to lead to trouble with the authorities.

There are two fast and easy ways to unload your stuff and make quick cash online; Amazon’s Market Place and eBay. My first stop is always at Amazon because of its ease of use particularly for books, CD's or software in good condition. Opening an account is easy. Simply visit Amazon and scroll down the page until you see the "Sell Your Stuff" link on the left. Search for your book, CD or other item, or use the ISBN (for books) or UPC’s (Universal Product Code) to find the item. Amazon will guide you through the process of giving the condition of the item, adding comments about the item, inputting your price, and submitting it for inclusion in its massive online store. Your product shows up right next to the new, full priced item as a “Buy Used” option. Amazon does the rest including adding a picture, processing the payment, and direct depositing the money into your account. Amazon charges you nothing until/unless your item sells. Juggling children and work can be a challenge, whether you work outside the home or you are a work from home mom, but, in some ways, work from home moms face more challenges than moms who work outside the home. After all, when you’re in a traditional office, you don’t need to worry that a coworker will burst into the room and scream “Mommy, he took my doll,” just as you are beginning an important conference call. So how does a work from home mom manage to keep her children happy and busy while she is trying to get her job done? First, you need to let your children know when you are not to be disturbed. Set up a schedule that includes playtime and work time and remind them that if they don’t disturb you while you are working, you will be able to give them your complete attention during playtime. As a reminder, use a do not disturb sign on your office door when you absolutely cannot be interrupted. Of course, it is easy for your children to behave while you are working if they have something to do. Fill a box with games and toys that can only be used while mom is working. Make sure you add a new puzzle, coloring book, or small toy on a frequent basis, to keep your children interested. If you don’t work on the phone, it is a bit easier to keep your children content when you are working. Set up an office space just for them, complete with a small table and chairs. Fill a lunch box with some of their favorite snacks and a few juice boxes each morning, so you aren’t inundated with requests for food and drinks. Add a children’s magazine, simple puzzles, coloring books, and art supplies. When your children are able to work along side you, the number of interruptions should decrease drastically. For moms who really need peace and quiet, but have small children, a mother’s helper can be a great solution. Since you will still be in the house, you do not need a fully trained baby sitter to help out. Instead, look for a teen who has little babysitting experience, but likes kids. She will probably be happy to watch your children while you work for the cost of a few good after school snacks and a few dollars. Finally, sometimes it’s just not possible to keep your children quiet and content while you are working. If your child is ill, you may just need to decide to take the day off. After all, the reason you are working from home is to have the flexibility to be there for your children when they need you!

To paraphrase an astute commentary of the Third Reich’s rise and maintenance of power, when they came for them I did nothing. I continued in my indifference as they came for more and more thems. Finally I became a them. When they came for me, those left were as silent as I had been. But this has nothing to do with you. You would have stood up to Nazi Germany. Hell, everyone who wasn’t there would have, just ask them. But that 2 bit Stalin you have to answer to each workday is another matter. He’s really frightening. Besides, you have no time for ideals. You have a family to support. Just as profit makes cowards of business, the checks they provide do the same to the workforce. You hope time passes quickly while the sun is up, so you can return to the freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution. It’s Uncle Sam versus Uncle Joe. We won the Cold War, but this one isn’t going well. It’s been said that the hours between 9am and 5pm are anything but democratic in the United States. But at least 5 pm does come and you’re right back in the good old USA. But are you really? Does the trauma of the day leave as the sun sets? You can try to drink Stalin out of your head, or adopt some of his tactics, yell at the kids, let off a little steam. But Joe is persistent. He has settled in permanently. His dacha inhibits a good part of your mind now. Those freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution only apply to government power. Employers can legally make your life a living hell, as long as they do it within certain boundaries. All the pride you hear expressed by others in the freedoms and greatness of America, mean little when you’re only here in body, your mind and spirit residing thousands of miles away, deep in Eurasia, 50+ years in the past. Others prod you on. If it’s that terrible, get another job. You know they’re right. So you plot your move to another company or self-employment, determined to become a full citizen of America. But the legacy of the day intervenes. Depression, self doubt, questioning whether human nature is horrible and there’s no escape anyway, immobilizes you. All your energy is expended surviving the day and analyzing it during the night. Besides, you’re getting older. Employers say they don’t discriminate based on age. Everyone knows that’s untrue. But it’s impolite to call people liars, even as they’re lying. Maybe you should adopt an attitude of optimism. After all, didn’t Stalin eventually relent? Well yes. He died. The effect of the workplace is so great on an individual, so determinant of who he or she becomes, it’s surprising one’s occupation and employer aren’t listed on their tombstone. They only inform us of your loving relationships to relatives. But whether you’re a loving husband or wife, father or mother to this or that child, is often the result of the treatment you receive as you labor to support them. Your feelings for them may be the same regardless of where you work, but you have to feel a joy for life to express love properly. Perhaps we should acknowledge that fact at the end. After all is said and done, you must be prepared because most of the time the gambler continues to gamble, maybe they will make a brief attempt to stop before starting again in secret. With most addictions the person with the problem needs to hit what they call a "bottom". This is when the gambler has lost everything that really meant anything to them, such as family and friends, and it is only at this point many will see the problem and seek help. If you know someone who is unwilling to admit their gambling problem I recommend that after you have tried your best to get this person to seek help if they do not, you may have to be prepared to leave them, remember at some point you have to abandon a sinking ship before you go down as well. We have two Italian Greyhounds (affectionately referred to as IG’s). Dixie was two when we brought Yankee home. I read that IG’s are happier with another animal and thought that another IG would be half as much trouble and twice as much fun. After a few days of establishing a pack order the two became great friends. For those not familiar with IG’s, they are about ј scale of the famous racetrack breed. In their finest form they look half-starved, even though it may look cruel to most pet owners, that’s when they are the most active and truly happiest. A pound or two slows them down tremendously and even becomes dangerous. They are fearless leapers. No matter how many times I try to explain to them Newton’s Laws of Gravity, it does no good. Heart-stopping stories abound over the internet chat rooms about their Superman like tendencies. The extra weight increases the risk of broken bones. They are also tremendous jumpers. In her hey-day Dixie could jump straight up over 6 feet high to grab a snack. At will she could jump flat-footed on to the dining room table, landing as soft as a butterfly with sore feet. But more than anything, those long thin legs were meant for speed. Unfortunately, they can run faster than they can think. IG’s become single focused when running. Twice I have nearly had a heart attack as they ran full speed into each other from opposite directions, tumbling like out of control race cars. Chasing after one another, they’d scrape the trees so close that bark literally flew off and misjudging turns, wiping-out in to brick walls and other immoveable objects was a common occurrence. Well, one day the inevitable finally happened, Dixie went into a door facing and snapped her left leg. The break was clean through. Her little paw dangling 90 degrees from just below her knee told me everything I didn’t want to know. I did the best I could to immobilize it as my wife called the vet. As soon as we got there they took her back for x-rays. She was obviously in a lot of pain but had quit yelping after I first picked her up. In fact, she was the calmest of any of us. My wife was crying because of the dog. I was crying because of the bill. If I would’ve known how much it was going to cost in the lobby I would have cried a lot harder. This was going to be a big payday for the vet. The choices were simple, they could try a cast, but it would probably not set right because of the very tiny, toothpick-thin fibula. The vet recommended a titanium plate and screws. The surgery alone would run $1,000. The total bill would actually end up over $1,800. I could have bought 3 Dixies and a lifetime supply of dog food for that much. My wife got mad because she didn’t like my sense of humor, but I wasn’t joking. I know the power of the purse, and I have no intention of getting hit by hers again so I relented. The next morning they put in the custom made plate and screws. It was really tricky because the screws had to be big enough to hold things together, but small enough not to interrupt blood flow. More painful (if you can believe that) than the vet bill, was the care and attention Dixie would require for the next 3 to 4 months. For the next three months she would have to be kept in a crate at all times. For the first three weeks when we took her out to go potty we would have to hold on to her. No walking was allowed. It is absolutely crucial for dogs to find the perfect spot to relieve themselves, not any spot will do. Humans cannot fully appreciate this until they miss an entire showing of Monday Night Football. A few weeks after the surgery we got a bit of good news, the leg was healing fine. She would still have to be crated, but we could put her on a real tight lead and let her stand on her three good legs to go potty. In about two to three week intervals after that she was allowed a little more freedom. Slowly things got back to normal. The first month after she got full clearance to run was rather tiring. Each jump, every full trot run brought held breaths in anticipation of another vet trip. It has taken two full years to get to where she no longer yelps or pulls up after a full run or sharp turn. She has lost a noticeable amount of her initial burst. She can longer track down Yankee from behind, but they still love to chase each other in the backyard and that gives us great pleasure. If you’ve never seen these gracious runners play at full speed then you cannot fully appreciate why we went to all the trouble and expense. My wife loves to show Dixie’s scar to anyone who comes by.
